Dinesh Mehta and Meera Mehta are Professor Emeritus at the CEPT University and Executive Director of Centre for Water and Sanitation (CWAS), CEPT Research & Development Foundation (CRDF). In this episode, 'Understanding the Future of Urban Water and Sanitation’, with Dinesh Mehta and Meera Mehta, we explore the need for water supply and sanitation as an integral part of the Indian cities. In the first part of the episode, we start the conversation by understanding various ways in which the water supply and sanitation systems are monitored throughout the value chain, globally and in India. This is followed by a discussion on the major sources of water supply, the challenges of managing water in cities, the challenges of urban sanitation and how sanitation is managed conventionally in India. The discussion also gives us a perception on terminologies like ODF, ODF+ and ODF++, and Water Plus. We further understand the role of Performance Assessment System (PAS) in monitoring mechanism of water supply and sanitation. The first part of the episode ends with a discussion on importance of citizen’s feedback and complaint redressal in terms of water and sanitation services provided to the city.
